Embroidery - A to Z Challenge

I didn't think I would make it to 'E' in the A to Z Challenge, but I’m here and I'm so happee!!
Purchased on a holiday in Vietnam

This year has reignited my interest in embroidery.  Alas, I find embroidery challenging for the following of reasons:-

"     It requires attention to detail,

"     The thread gets tangled easily,

"     I run out of thread at the crucial time,

"     I’m always losing the scissors,

"     Impossible to do in average light,

"     My fingers are tortured by the needle,

"     I don’t know how to do all the fancy stitches.

I do have a positive spin on embroidery for me for the following reasons:-

"     It’s transportable,

"    Fills in time, i.e. waiting at the doctors surgery,

"     I can take it outside on a beautiful day,

"     It’s a conversation starter,

"    A finished piece has multiple uses, i.e. cushion cover, frame it, panel insert for many sewing projects etc.

So, I will continue to explore the positive aspects of embroidery and on my bucket list is the desire to design my own amazing story to embroider.

  3. You'll make it. I used to embroider when I was a young girl but I was not very good at it! You summed it up about right, and I'm glad you will continue to embroider your own story. I haven't gotten around to E yet this morning. I'm already running out of energy .... :( (sleep apnea). HELP!

  4. I would love to be able to embroider. My grandma tried to teach me when I was a kid, but I never really got the hang of it. I was better at cross-stitch.

Have a wonderful Friday! Thanks for your comment and the follow. I'm following back. ☺

  5. I don't think I have the patience for embroidery. But it's more that I'm not really 'crafty', more 'arty' I guess. :)

    1. Trisha it's something that I can only commit to for a half hour at a time max.

  6. I've never done free style kind of embroidery, but I do love it. I'm intrigued by your statement that you want to do your story in embroidery. I just finished reading Needle in the Blood about a historical tapestry that was commissioned to tell a story... Bayeaux Tapestry I think... Anyway - I think you should start sketching! ; )

  7. Wow... You're my hero :) I could never do embroidery as a hobby. I remember doing one a million years ago--maybe for a school project or something--and I do remember liking it... But, like Trisha above, I'm not very "crafty" :D Which is why your work has my triple admiration!

  10. I am ALSO happy you made it to "E." What a brilliant post.
Now, I hope you NEVER have to wait in a doctors surgery - BUT, I agree with you completely.
I'm certain you'll find your own story to embroider - and it will become a masterpiece.
    Happy A to Z!!!

  12. Great post idea, listing the positives and negatives of embroidery. I think you pretty well summed it up for most of us. Your examples are gorgeous. Several years ago a quilting magazine designed quilt blocks to be embroidered and used as a pillow, wall hanging, or center of a quilt, based on someone's life. I don't remember how the person was chosen, but the idea was to teach readers they could design their own "block of life." I love how so many of us in A to Z migrated to embroidery for E. Glad you made it, keep going.
