My Yucca trees are in
flower for the first time.
It’s the end of Summer
here and whilst the weather is still warm, the season is definitely moving
towards Autumn, if somewhat slowly. I’m
not complaining, I love Summer but Autumn is just about the next best thing.
The flower is
sensational but I can’t get close enough to be able to tell if there is any
perfume. At first I thought the flower
would be short lived [maybe a couple of days] but after three weeks it appears
to be continually developing.
I have no desire to remove the flowers, they can stay exactly where they are, and I can enjoy them day in, day out from my kitchen window and naturally when I sit by the pool to enjoy a good book and a cuppa.
Those are beautiful. the tree itself is so nicely exotic.
ReplyDeleteProbably the pic doesn't do the flower justice, it reminds me of an orchid which is very exotic.
ReplyDeleteMy Pops loved all things desert . . . Especially when the desert was blooming . . . needless to say, your gorgeous photos reminded me of my magnificent pops . . (thank you) - while i was here i surfed around a bit . . Golly, your empathy monster is adorable - You have tons of talent.

I didn't know, or had forgotten that Yucca plants have a flower. My M-I-L had a short row of them and I don't remember ever seeing them flower. Of course, just thriving was a challenge for them since we live in Oklahoma, and it's a little (understatement?) cooler than they like. Thanks for sharing your flowering Yucca, and for the memories. Visiting from A to Z.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flower! I am eagerly anticipating my daffodils to pop. It has been a long winter and they are late in coming. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely. It's Spring here, so I'm looking forward to blossoms and flowers. Except, so are the deer, and rabbits, and squirrels. Hope to see you over at MROP some time - today I'm talking about Fantasy. -Belinda.
ReplyDeleteI had yuccas when I lived in BC but they never got like this, wow!
ReplyDeleteThey sure are something when they flower, aren't they?
Beautiful flower, love your post.

What a great tree! I wish I could grow those here, but they couldn't take our hard winter. We used to have year-round plants in San Francisco - I miss that!
ReplyDeleteimpressive!
ReplyDeleteI have a yucca but it has never bloomed. It's smaller and in my conservatory, so maybe it's not supposed to. But the flowers on yours are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYucca would be great for the tricky Y of the a to z challenge.
I thought about using yucca for the Y challenge, but I'm thinking I won't make it that far. You should see the effort I was trying to make for 'G' only to trash my work, I was trying to show off some of my art work. That's not going to happen for this letter!!
DeleteWow! Our yucca in our UK garden has never flowered. We're desperately waiting for signs of Spring in the UK. It's been so cold that our usual Spring flowers haven't done too well.

I've been watching and hearing how cold it is over in UK, I'm so glad I'm here although I was lucky enough to visit London in 2009 during the Spring season and it was like our Autumn. A lovely visit indeed.
DeleteI have these in my back yard and we call them chochas. The flowers are very tasty with scrambled eggs.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers look a bit like scrambled eggs come to think of it, but I think I would need you Al to cook it for me as I'm sure I would get it wrong.
